However, when hair has broken ends, it means that the structure of the hair itself is damaged: the outer structure of the hair, including the cuticle (outer layer) and cortex (inner layer). As a result, the following changes occur inside the hair:
- Cuticle destruction: The hair cuticle is a protective layer of small scales that cover the hair and protect its inner layers. When the tip is broken, the cuticle can be damaged, making the hair more vulnerable to environmental stress and damage.
- Cortex Exposure: The hair cortex contains small fibers that give the hair strength and structure. When the cuticle is damaged, the inner fibers of the cortex may be more vulnerable to mechanical stress, which can lead to fragments and tears.
- Moisture Loss: Damage to the cuticle can cause increased moisture loss. This makes the hair drier and less elastic, which worsens its appearance and condition.
