Seborrhea/Psoriasis
Seborrhea and psoriasis are chronic skin conditions that present with redness, scaling, and itching but have different underlying causes: seborrhea is associated with overactive sebaceous glands and the yeast Malassezia, while psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder that accelerates skin cell turnover. Seborrhea typically affects oily areas like the scalp, face, and chest, causing greasy yellowish flakes, whereas psoriasis is marked by thick, dry, silvery plaques commonly found on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back. Treatment differs accordingly—seborrhea is managed with antifungal shampoos and mild corticosteroids, while psoriasis often requires immunosuppressive medications, phototherapy, or systemic treatments. In some cases, features of both conditions overlap in what is known as sebopsoriasis, which requires a combined therapeutic approach.
